Chery Company History

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. is a Chinese car brand that was created on March 18, 1997. The company was founded by officials from the Anhui province in China. Chery manufacture passenger cars, sedans, SUVs, SUV crossovers, minivans and commercial vehicles in China and various countries around the world. They’re best known for their affordable range of vehicles. Chery headquarters are currently in Wuhu, Anhui, China in Asia.

Chery Company Timeline – History

1997 – Government officials in the Anhui region of China created the Chery automobile company the 18th of March, 1997. It’s a Chinese state owned car company. It was incorporated on January 8.

1997 – In simplified Chinese Chery is 奇瑞 and Chery Automobile Co is 奇瑞汽车股份有限公司.

1999 – The first car Chery produced was the Chery SQR7160 Fengyun which uses a Volkswagen SEAT Toledo chassis.

2003 – Chery Automobile hired foreign automobile experts to prepare the company to move into producing vehicles for the global market. Worked on improving quality and technology.

2003 – The chinese car maker opened a manufacturing plant in Iran.

2004 – General Motors sued the car company for “extreme similarities” of the GM owned Daewoo car type. The company has been accused of stealing other designs and ideas, with some car enthusiasts saying the Infiniti emblem of Japan’s Nissan being the source of Chery’s logo.

2005 – Chery became a ISO/TS 16949:2002 manufacturer of cars, the same level that some of the highest quality cars in the world are graded with.

2005 – Chery had exported a total of more than 10,000 cars to countries worldwide since starting.

2009 – The Chinese car makers produced 508,500 vehicles for the year.

2012 – Chery Automobile formed a joint venture with the Indian Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover Automotive to create the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company. Headquartered in Changshu, China the Chery Jaguar Land Rover company manufactures Jaguar and Land Rover cars in China for the Chinese market.

2018 – Chery Tiggo 8 was first produced. It’s a 7 seater mid sized SUV crossover with front wheel drive or 4WD options.
